Naples Search Engine Optimization, and why you need it!

Every day there are more business owners discovering the power of the Internet and optimizing for top positioning in the search engines. Without SEO or Search Engine Optimization, you may just get trampled on and be left in the web abyss with so many failed e-commerce sites.

SEO is a term widely used today within the marketing industry. For the past few years and the next ten years or so, search engines will be the most widely used resource to find the service, product or information they need and want.

Most people that use search engines only click on the top search results on the first page. Making it to the first page, even more so in the top three positions displayed in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP’s) almost guarantees you high quality, “free”, targeted traffic for potentially years to come. You will get a higher ratio of probability in being clicked on when you rank high. The more traffic for your site, the more business you will get.

What is search engine optimization and do you have to use it?

The answer to why you have to use it is an easy one. You need search engine optimization to be number one, number two and in most cases number three to at least make your site income generating. Here is the most recent Google and Bing Heatmap for 2011 so you can see where people are looking, and clicking after making a query in the search engines.

With search engine optimization you can get the benefit of generating highly targeted traffic at a fraction of the cost of paid campaigns on AdWords or in Adcenter. If your website is optimized properly, and within a couple months I have you ranked for a dozen terms related to your niche you will not have to spend a dime on a paid campaign. Your SEO will keep you positioned for potentially years to come and all the while your competitors are paying hundreds of dollars on AdWords and paying twenty bucks a pop for “so called” good leads from places like ServiceMagic and YellowPages online. With the power of good SEO you pay once and sit back and take care of running the company, as you should be.

So once again, what is SEO? Search engine optimization is utilizing the tools and methods while leveraging your website to make your site show up in the top of the SERP’s. Getting yourself on the first page, and better yet in the top half of SERP’s will ensure that your site will generate a public awareness and subsequently generate more targeted traffic, traffic that can generate leads for your business as well as sales.

SEO requires a lot of work to be fully realized. There are many aspects you have to tweak on your site or add as well to be as search engine optimized as possible. Some of these tasks will include gathering relevant terms or keyword phrases such as Naples Plumbing, Naples Web Design, Naples Roofing… or in my case, Naples SEO or Search Engine Optimization Naples FL. All you have to do is make sure you target the terms your typical consumer would use to find you online. There is a helpful tool for you to compile a targeted keyword list, the Google Keyword Tool. Just enter a couple phrases and Google will give you several terms that people use daily to find the products or services you provide.

You may also need to rewrite your sites content so that you can get the right keyword phrases in there without making it too commercial or spammy, but still making it light and informative. There are certain rules and guidelines to be followed with making your site’s content applicable and conducive to search engine optimization. Bing’s SEO principles:

SEO is fundamentally about creating websites that are good for people. The most basic advice we can give for achieving optimum rank for your site in Bing is to do the following:

• Develop great, original content (including well-implemented keywords) directed toward your intended audience
• Use well-architected code in your webpages (including images and Sitemaps) so that users’ web browsers and search engine crawlers can read the content you want indexed)
• Earn several, high-quality, authoritative inbound links

Our Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide covers around a dozen common areas that webmasters might consider optimizing. Even though the search engines give us a peak at what is important to achieve top positioning they don’t give us enough to capitalise on their algorhythms. Best practices and due diligence has always seemed to be the best route.

Do Small Businesses Need SEO to be Successful…

The Internet is no longer an untapped resource for business owners, as it has been in the past.  Competition is extremely heavy in most industries, and now seems like just about every small business has a website. Those early days of being successful online simply because a company was one of a few in their niche with a website are long, long gone.
 
With so much competition online already and more coming daily, how can a small businesses adapt?
 
Every business operates differently to achieve their goals and each will have their own budget and strategy for dealing with the rapidly increasing competition. The one strategy that I believe every small business should consider when dealing with online competition is search engine optimization.

Here are a few of the SEO achievements from the campaign. Most of the terms targeted were national, such as Hand Surgeon and Hand Surgery, this was about 4-5 months of work.

Whats really important is the “on-site” SEO that is done before the site is even launched. Often times this doesn’t happen but if you can remember a few key elements it will help you out tremendously. If your website isn’t built in a way the search engines can read the contents then you aren’t going to rank at all. There are certain standards for web development and most programers are really good at what they do but, the developers make the website functional… add navigation, add pages, products, interactive video, sign up forms etc.

SEO has to come in and find a way to let the search engines know what each element is within the contents of each web page of the website. This can be everything from the navigational bar down to the footer, each element can be tagged in a way the search  engines can find it, index it and then display the page if relevant to a query made in a search box. Both schools complement each other but creating code and building websites is an art in itself and Search Engine Optimization is something completely different.

Analytical tools and sophisticated tracking software allows you to test and tweak your pay per click campaign in real time, all the while minimizing your cost per acquisition.

Clients often ask how cheap it can be to be advertising on Google and I am happy to say it is still possible to get those elusive 5 cent keywords.

 

 

If you want to get the really cheap clicks you may want to have a graphic designer develop some custom banner creatives for the campaign. It isn’t always necessary to run a campaign with images but it certainly helps with the company branding and recognition, as well as giving a professional polish to your advertising. They always said an image says a thousand words, but a properly designed banner can invoke emotion :)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The screen shot below gives you a view of a 4% Click Thru Rate (CTR). Average is actually .44% if your running a campaign in the content/Google partners network because there are so many sites that are niche specific around the net. The dips you see are campaign adjustments, rewriting ad’s to improve the performance, adding and deleting keywords and typically weekends are slow for just about any campaign I have run. But even though the weekends were slow, the 3 million impressions and 100,000 plus visitors to the site in a couple months more than made up for it.

Here is another example of cheap clicks to show you that there are many, many of them out there.

 

The key to achieving a lower cost per click is making sure you have a tight correlation between the ad copy, the keywords your bidding on and the relationship those factors have with the landing page. You can’t bid on a term and not have it in the ad or on your landing page and expect to have results like this.

 

Often times it’s necessary to develop custom landing pages for each group of keywords, or in some cases a single term.

 

The process of creating landing pages can be a simple as adding a specific page to your blog about a product or service you offer and ensuring you have a clear call to action. To get the most bang for your buck you could put together a special report about your products or service and why you should be the go to resource.

 

I have found most of my clients have materials just collecting dust on their hard drives that would be great for a free download as an informational piece to offer prospects. The “freebie model” is a great way to capture a lead for next to nothing with the ability to follow up, nurture the lead and turn them into repeat buyers.

Pets Head to Tail was a tough contract for me because of the crazy competition, competing with PetSmart and PetCo isn’t something to be taken lightly. Some of these terms have over 8 million competing pages, after about 7 months I was able to get all the desired keywords and a few extra (for diversity) on page 1 of Google.
